Andy Clark
I’m a philosopher and cognitive scientist, based in the School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. My interests include artificial intelligence, embodied and extended cognition, robotics, and computational neuroscience. Currently, my main focus is on ‘predictive processing’ approaches to the study of mind, with a special focus on the way these stories relate to work on embodied and extended cognition. As PI on this 4-year ERC Advanced Grant, the hope is to leverage work in embodied predictive processing as a way of illuminating the nature and possibility of conscious experience. I’m the author of several books including Surfing Uncertainty: Prediction, Action, and the Embodied Mind (Oxford University Press, 2016).
